What is Manuha Pagoda Festival?

The Manuha Pagoda Festival is a traditional Buddhist festival held in Myinkaba Village.

This two day festival features a thriving market that erupts on the grounds of the Manuha Pagoda. Farmers from the surrounding countryside form long processions in ox-drawn carts hauling produce to sell at the market. Merchant stalls selling every kind of good pop up throughout the compound. Both the farmers and the merchants will donate heavily to the Manuha Pagoda’s clergy to help support the monks who reside in the area and maintain the temple.

As the festival proceeds a parade of villagers marches throughout the town holding paper mache effigies of the Jakata Tales, stories of Buddha’s many incarnations. The villagers prepare rice cakes and pickled water melon and share the treats with any visitors in a tradition known as “Sadu Ditha”.
