The Pattaya Elephant Village is a non-profit retirement center for working elephants that, due to age or injury, can no longer perform the arduous labor needed in the jungles of Thailand.
Guests on luxury tours of Thailand have the opportunity to watch 90-minute training shows where the sanctuary demonstrates techniques used to train and care for the elephants, and attendees get the chance to feed and care for the animals.
The elephant ride and walking tour are also a popular way to see Pattaya’s surrounding nature.
The training show starts around 2:30 p.m. daily, and multiple treks are available at varying times.
The monsoon season is light here, and guests on Thailand tours can find booking for accommodations easier and cheaper during September and October. The high season for the area runs from the end of October through February, and guests planning their luxury Thailand tours should book in advance if they wish to visit during these months.
Just a few miles east of the coastal city of Pattaya, The Elephant Village is easily accessed by private car.
Pattaya, Thailand rests on the East coast of the Gulf of Siam about 50 miles from the capital of Bangkok.
