The region is home to the hardy descendants of the Marathas, and cultivates rice, mangoes, cashews, and jackfruit. Fish is also a main staple of the diet. On your journey in the Deccan Odyssey, you will travel through valleys, green expanses and urban landscapes. Often times in the distance are misty mountains.

The Deccan Odyssey reflects the service and opulence of five-star hotels. You are welcomed to the Deccan Odyssey and your luggage is collected for you and taken to your room. Once you board the Deccan Odyssey, you discover a complimentary bottle of wine in your cabin. A welcome packet also contains stationary, informational brochures and cards. The train has 12 sleeping carriages. All of the cabins are air conditioned and contain an electronic safe. The other standard amenities include the capability to pipe music through the room, and an array of CDs and MP3s available on request. The rooms are carpeted. There are four suites in the Deccan Odyssey, each comprising half a carriage and complete with their own sitting room and two bathrooms. The suites are very spacious, at a total of 191 square feet. The suites have a double bed. The rest of the sleeping cars contain four standard cabins, each with two twin beds and a bathroom.
